Research Paper Regarding TRU North Tower Residence Building
Attached is a research paper regarding the sound transmission issue within the North Tower Residence building. The intention was to figure out a way to increase the sound transmission coefficient (STC) value without demolishing the existing walls. The idea of keeping the walls in place and finding alternative materials to improve the STC rating was due to the lack of ability to recycle the current material that would ultimately be thrown out and stay in the environment for decades to come. While the building material is fine when placed on a wall, it realises potentially toxic gases that will damage the environment once the material is disturbed. Over time the materials will break down into microparticles and get blown throughout the environment and bodies of water. And over time could kill off microspecies that thrive in the environment ecosystem.
